After School and Summer Activities for Youth
After school and summer activities are provided for youth to offer pro-social activities for youth. The after-school and summer programs include recreation and entertainment and personal social development programs, particularly those aimed at educational enhancement, increasing self-esteem and cultural awareness, alcohol and drug avoidance, and helping youth to increase their ability to cope with stress and manage social problems. The hours of operation are 4:30am to 7pm, Monday- Friday and Saturdays 10am - 2pm.
Needs and Characteristics of the Population Served
Provides prevention activities for youth ages 6-17 that reside in high risk environments to help the delay the onset of early substance use in order to help them avoid the consequences of substance use disorders that might include a variety of self-defeating and destructive behaviors.
To prevent the underage consumption of ATOD and violence among youth by helping to delay the onset of early substance use.
Scope of Services
Services are provided to help youth who live-in high-risk environments receive program services that assist them with developing protective resiliency skills, positive social behavior, educational achievement aspirations, and mentoring from positive role models to help them avoid Alcohol, Tobacco, Other Drugs (ATOD) and violence to enhance their ability to develop healthy and wholesome lifestyles. The youth prevention services are comprehensive in scope and include a combination of evidence-based strategies approved by the Center for Substance Abuse Prevention (CSAP) to decrease risk factors and enhance protective factors.
