suicide prevention project

Choose Life is an impactful suicide prevention initiative designed specifically to address the needs of Black youth and young adults. Our mission is to create a supportive environment that fosters hope, resilience, and understanding, promoting the message that life is truly better with you here. At the heart of our project is the commitment to educating and engaging with faith-based and community members, ensuring they are equipped with the knowledge and resources necessary to intervene and provide support effectively.

Our approach is rooted in evidence-based methods and the deep belief in the power of community to make a difference. Through the 988 Suicide Crisis Lifeline and our Life Is Better With You Here campaign, we strive to reduce suicide attempts and completions, offering a beacon of hope and a path towards healing. Choose Life is more than just a campaign; it's a movement towards embracing health, wellness, and prevention as essential tools in combating the behavioral health crises affecting our communities, including the opioid epidemic.

At UMADAOP Lucas County, we envision communities where every individual feels valued, understood, and supported. Choose Life is our pledge to Black youth and young adults that we are here for them, ready to provide the guidance, resources, and care they need to choose life, every day.
